Business-Aligned® Diversity and Inclusion Training and Briefings for CEOs, Executives, and Senior Executive Teams
Situation:
The Vice President and Chief HR Officer of a prominent financial services company needed to accomplish two objectives with the CEO and senior executive team. (1) Inform the executives about Business-Aligned® diversity and inclusion planning, and the potential direct role of diversity and inclusion in achieving key business objectives. (2) Engage these executives in accepting ownership of and accountability for a new firm-wide diversity and inclusion strategy.
Solution:
Engaging the CEO and senior executive team in diversity started with up-front interviews to obtain their input about key business trends and priorities, and consequent workforce and work place needs. These inputs were analyzed to identify relevant themes and trends that became the basis for the diversity and inclusion strategy.
The executive diversity training took the form of an executive briefing that included concise background about Business-Aligned® diversity and inclusion (D&I) planning showing the direct link between key business objectives and the diversity and inclusion initiatives to be recommended. The briefing then summarized the themes and trends identified from the executives’ input and presented the related diversity and inclusion recommendations.
Outcome:
The planning model and recommendations resonated with the executives since they were based on the earlier interviews. The plan was accepted readily and became the basis for all implementation planning across the firm.
Situation:
The Chief Diversity Officer of a major pharmaceutical company needed to brief the CEO and senior leadership team about a proposed new direction for their diversity and inclusion initiative, including a compelling business case for diversity.
Solution:
Two externally-focused analyses were performed: (1) Demographic and health care purchase trends. (2) Industry-wide major lawsuit activity and the impact on the involved companies’ operation and reputation. These analyses were combined with company-specific strategies and goals into a focused executive briefing framed as a Call to Action.
Outcome:
The briefing was used to help drive decisions about the direction of their diversity initiative.
Situation:
The Chief Diversity Officer of a major food service provider needed a CEO briefing on Employee Network Group funding and direction. Extensive benchmarking data was available.
Solution:
The benchmarking data was consolidated and analyzed to identify relevant trends. A concise, focused briefing package was prepared that framed their employee network group recommendations in the context of the benchmarking input and the company’s own leading-edge work in the area.
Outcome:
The briefing drove decisions about how the company will continue to work with and derive business value from their employee network groups.
